Net worth is the single clearest measure of financial position: the total value of your assets (cash, investments, home equity) minus your liabilities (loans, credit-card balances, mortgages). It can be negative early in life and grows as you pay down debt and build savings. Tracking net worth over time is more meaningful than tracking income alone.
