Home Equity
The share of your home you actually own — value minus mortgage.
Home equity is the portion of your property you truly own: its current market value minus the remaining mortgage balance. It grows two ways — as you pay down the loan (principal), and as the home appreciates in value. Equity is real wealth, but it is illiquid: accessing it means selling, refinancing, or borrowing against it.
