Escrow

A neutral holding account for funds, common in mortgages.

Escrow is money held by a neutral third party until certain conditions are met. In a mortgage, a lender often collects property taxes and homeowners insurance as part of your monthly payment and holds them in an escrow account, then pays those bills on your behalf when they come due. This spreads big annual bills into manageable monthly amounts.
